Description
12A and 12B St George Street, along with 46A Maddox Street, is a terraced town house built in the early 18th century, around 1717 to 1720. The building was completely rebuilt but features a carefully designed facade that mimics the original style, including a return bay on Maddox Street. It is constructed of red brick with stone dressings and has a slate roof. The structure consists of three storeys, a basement, and a dormered attic, with a width of four windows. The facade includes rusticated stone quoin piers and camber arched openings on all floors, which are framed by plain stone surrounds and linked by rusticated aprons. The main entrance is located to the right of the center and features a rusticated surround with a bold cyma recta cornice above. There is a dentil cornice above the second floor, and a matching window return is present on Maddox Street. The original house was part of Lord Scarborough's development of Hanover Square, which introduced a German-Hanoverian facade type and Baroque plan. This building is included as a facsimile pair with the original No 13.
