Description
This is a row of terraced houses at numbers 29 to 37, York Street, Westminster, built around 1810 to 1820 as part of the Portman Estate development associated with Gloucester Place. The buildings are constructed of stock brick with stuccoed ground floors, and have concealed slate roofs. They are four storeys high, with basements, and each house front has two windows. A semicircular arched doorway is located on the left-hand side, with panelled doors. The doors to numbers 31 to 37 have reeded jambs and heads, with fanlights above. The fanlights on numbers 29 and 37 retain an enriched radial pattern. The windows are recessed sash windows, most of which retain their original glazing bars and are set within flat, gauged arches. Stuccowork finishes at a plat band level on the first floor. A crowning stucco cornice and blocking course tops the buildings. Continuous cast iron balconies with a geometric pattern run along the front of the first floor. Cast iron area railings are present, topped with urn finials.
