Description
This building complex consists of the terrace and public house at 22 to 25 Sale Place and 26 The Royal Exchange, including 17 Star Street. It dates from the early 19th century and is constructed of yellow brick in Flemish bond, with a channelled stucco ground floor. The structure is three storeys tall with a basement, featuring two bays for each house.
Nos 22 to 24 have panelled doors set in elliptical-arched recesses, accompanied by patterned fanlights. The windows are sixteen-pane elliptical-arched sashes. No 25 features a 20th-century shop front. The Royal Exchange has a 20th-century public house front beneath a 19th-century cornice supported by consoles. The corner site of No 17 Star Street also has a 20th-century shop front.
On the upper floors, the windows are sashes with glazing bars, set under flat gauged brick arches. There are iron balconies on the first floor of Nos 22 to 24. The angle bay of the Royal Exchange is finished in stucco. A stucco band runs along the third floor sill, and there is a coping to the parapet. The basement of Nos 22 to 25 features railings with arrowheads for Nos 22 to 24.
