Description
Nos. 7, 9, and 11 King Street is a row of three townhouses, now functioning as two shops with offices above. The building dates from around 1800 and has been altered in the 19th and 20th centuries. It is constructed of handmade brown brick in Flemish bond, with some sandstone dressings and a slate roof. The structure has a double-depth plan with back extensions.
The building stands three storeys high and features a layout of two plus two windows. It has a continuous fluted frieze and a cornice with modillions at the eaves. The ground floor has 20th-century shop fronts, with the shop fronts at Nos. 7 and 9 featuring a 19th-century pilastered surround and fascia. The doorway to No. 9 has recessed panelled reveals and soffit, along with a panelled door that includes a rectangular overlight.
On the upper floors of Nos. 7 and 9, there are two later 19th-century tripartite sashed windows, while No. 11 has two sashed windows with exposed boxes but no glazing bars on each upper floor. All these windows have raised sills and wedge lintels. The right-hand return wall is rendered. At the rear, there are segmental-headed windows, including a tall stair window for No. 9 and a horizontal-sliding sash for No. 11. There is also a single-storey service wing to No. 7, which has a monopitch roof.
The building forms a group with Nos. 13 and 15, which are adjacent to the left.
