Description
21, 23, and 25 King Street is a town house that has been converted into two shops with offices above. It was built around 1800 and has undergone some alterations. The building is constructed of red brick in Flemish bond, with some sandstone detailing and a slate roof. It has a double-depth, double-fronted layout, plus a back extension.
The structure stands three stories high and features five symmetrical windows. It has a cavetto-moulded eaves cornice and a central round-headed doorway set in an open-pedimented Tuscan doorcase, which includes three-quarter columns with square abaci and finely-moulded draped urns on the friezes. The entrance has a six-panel door and a fanlight with radiating metal tracery, which is now flanked by symmetrical shop fronts. The first-floor windows are sashed with 12 panes, while the second-floor windows have six panes. The central windows have moulded architraves, and the first-floor window also features a cornice.
The building forms a group with Nos. 26 to 34 opposite, as well as Nos. 13 and 15 and Nos. 7 to 11 to the right. Nos. 21 and 25 were listed on August 4, 1983.
