Description

1, 3, and 5 Angel Terrace are three houses with shops, built after 1974, likely around 1800. The building features Flemish bond brick on No.1, smooth plaster on No.3, and stretchers interspersed with pairs of headers on No.5. They have slate roofs, with a right end stack on No.1 and left end stacks on Nos. 3 and 5, which have 19th-century brick shafts with platbands, except for No.5, which is roughcast.

The terrace is situated on an elevated pavement and has a deep plan, with each house being one room wide. The exterior consists of three storeys and basements, with a 1:1:1-window front. No.1, on the right, has a curved front wall that follows the road's curve, segmental-headed rubbed brick arches over the windows, and a hoodmoulded cornice. The ground floor features a shop front that spans the entire width, with a fascia and cornice, a recessed shop door to the right that is glazed with a low panel, and a 3-pane shop window. It likely has original hornless sash windows, with a 12-pane sash on the first floor and a 3 over 6-pane sash on the second floor.

No.3 has an eaves board beneath a moulded cornice and a shop front from the early 20th century with timber pilasters, fascia, and cornice. It features a canted plate glass shop window to the right, a 20th-century glazed shop door with an overlight, and a 4-panel door alongside that leads to accommodation, featuring fielded upper panels and flush lower panels with a 2-pane overlight. The first and second-floor windows, both located to the right of centre, have 12-pane sashes.

No.5 also has an eaves board beneath a moulded cornice and a late 19th or early 20th-century shop front with timber pilasters, console brackets, a fascia, and a deep moulded cornice. The plate glass shop window is canted to the right, accompanied by a glazed shop door with a low panel. The interior of No.1 has been partially inspected and retains 2-panel doors.
