Description

This is a house, likely dating to around 1800, built after a fire in 1794. It was formerly the Liberal Club. Constructed using mass wall construction and rendered with smooth plaster, the building has a slate roof with gabled ends and end stacks. It stands on an elevated section of pavement on Angel Hill.

The house has a deep plan, with a single room width across the front, and a front door located on the right side. The exterior features deep eaves supported by paired eaves brackets. A prominent doorcase is characterised by fluted pilasters with capitals and a cornice with a modillion frieze. Steps lead up to a six-panel door, with the top panels glazed, the central panels fielded, and the lower panels flush. The windows are likely original. The ground-floor window on the right has an eight-pane over one-pane sash, the lower section missing its original glazing bars. First-floor windows are sixteen-pane sashes, while those on the second floor are four-pane over eight-pane.

The interior was not inspected, but may contain features of interest.
