Description
Nos. 15 and 164A Elgin Mews South is a pair of houses built around 1864. They are constructed of yellow brick in Flemish bond, featuring red brick dressings and freestone detailing, with some areas painted. Each house is two storeys tall and has a grand design with three bays and a central carriage arch in the Italian Gothic style. The flanking pilasters have a Lombard frieze instead of capitals, which support a cornice. The round carriage arch is adorned with cogged moulding and a red brick keystone beneath a pointed hood-mould.
On either side of the arch, there is a triple group of windows: round-arched windows for No. 164A and flat-headed 20th-century windows for No. 15, all set within a round-arched arcade with pointed heads and red brick banding, supported by colonettes with spiral lower halves and foliate capitals. Above the windows, there are sunken panels in red brick, and later square openings beneath the windows. The buildings feature a blocking course, and the return fronts are painted white, displaying round-arched sashes, except for one casement window on the ground floor of No. 164A, with similar detailing to the front. The houses also have cogged bands and entrances at the rear.
