Description

The Gables is a large, detached house dating to circa 1845. It is constructed of stucco and features a pitched tiled roof behind a parapet. The building is irregularly designed in a Tudor/Gothic style, with a forward-stepping arrangement towards the centre. The house extends to two storeys and an attic, displaying seven bays with five gables, notably to the outer and central bays. A recessed, traceried door is set within a central four-centred moulded arched entrance, incorporating a dripmould. Above the entrance sits a corbelled oriel window. The windows are square-headed, with two or three lights and mullioned, transomed leaded lights, all topped with dripmoulds. Moulded strings define the division between the storeys. A parapet runs along the top, and a tall chimney punctuates the facade. The right-hand bay at ground floor level has been altered for use as a garage.
