Hotel. 1887-9. Designed by E T Hall. Red brick, stone dressings; slate and lead roof. 'U' shaped plan surrounding entrance court. 6 storeys plus attic and basement. Multibay facade. Entrance porch with cast iron colonnade to base of 'U' shaped entrance court. Windows, mainly square-headed, some set in trefoil window heads. Corbelled bay windows at intervals, rising from second floor level. Dutch gables to parapet. Wrought iron area railings. Main interior spaces of Baroque design, with rich plaster work of high quality, to main foyer, dining room, ballroom etc. Built as St Ermin's Mansions.
