TQ 2880 NE CITY OF WESTMINSTER BERKELEY SQUARE W1 69/17 (south west side) 20.5.69 No 34 (including No 130 Mount Street) GV II

Corner block comprising town house to the square and an office with flats above to return. Dated 1880-82 on plaque; by J T Wimperis. Red brick with gauged red brick arches and detailing plus terracotta dressings. Free Jacobean-cum-Queen Anne style. Four storeys, basement and tiled mansard attic. Massive ribbed chimney stacks. Broad projecting window bays, with grouped and single sashes and mullioned - transomed casements, rising into shaped or pedimented Dutch gables. Terracotta dressed "console" pilaster doorways. Terracotta balconies, that on first floor facing square continuous. Ornate cast iron area railings. Interior has elegant staircase and rooms in simple Queen Anne taste. Stained glass stair light incorporates portrait roundels of Tasso and Rembrandt.
