Description

Bourdon House is a detached town house built around 1721-1725, located with its main south front at a right angle to Davies Street in the City of Westminster. The building is constructed of brown brick and was originally two storeys with an attic, but was raised by one storey with a slated mansard roof in the second half of the 19th century. It features rusticated brick quoins and has a three-storey, two-bay extension with a new entrance added to the north on Davies Street around 1760.

Mid-19th century alterations unified both sections of the house, which now has a parapet made of half-round tiles and a tiled mansard roof with a dormer. The Davies Street facade has four window bays, some of which are blind. The ground floor features a reset or reproduction wood pilaster doorcase with an open pediment and renewed glazing bar sash windows. The main south front, facing a small garden, has a configuration of one, three, and one window bays, with the central three bays being advanced, quoined, and pedimented. This section includes a central stone architrave doorway topped with a pediment on consoles. There is an original stone cornice over the first floor that returns to Davies Street, along with flush-framed renewed glazing bar sashes and early 20th-century wrought iron balconettes on the first floor.

An additional wing, designed to match the original style, was added to the right side in the early 20th century. The interior retains much of its original 18th-century and circa 1760 panelling, along with a turned baluster open string staircase.
