Description
A row of four terraced town houses, numbers 13 to 17 Montagu Square, were built around 1810 to 1811 by J.T. Parkinson. They were designed as part of the wider Montagu-Bryanston Square development for the Portman Estate. The houses are constructed of stock brick with a channelled stucco finish to the ground floor, and have concealed slate roofs. They stand five storeys high, with basements, and each front has three windows. Semicircular arched doorways are positioned to the right in numbers 13, 14, and 16, and to the left in numbers 15 and 17. These doorways feature panelled doors with inset Greek Doric columns, and plain or patterned fanlights above. The upper floors contain recessed sash windows, all set within flat, gauged arches. A plat band separates the ground floor stucco from the brickwork above. The houses are topped with stucco cornices and blocking courses. A continuous, cast iron balcony with a lattice pattern runs along the first floor, and cast iron area railings with acorn finials complete the facade.
