Description

A terrace of eight houses, numbered 39-47 Kendal Street, London W2, with a further building at 47a on the corner, built in the 1820s. The terrace was designed by S P Cockerell for the Trustees of the Bishop of London. The buildings are constructed of brown brick laid in a Flemish bond pattern, with channelled stucco to the ground floor and a stucco band at the third-floor sill level. The terrace comprises four storeys and a basement. Nos 39-47 are each two bays wide, while Nos 47 and 47a, on a corner site, are three bays wide. Each house features round-arched recesses containing doors, flanked by consoles. The fanlights above the doors are patterned. The sash windows have glazing bars. Decorative iron balconies are present at the first-floor level. Upper windows are topped by flat, gauged brick arches. Railings enclose the basement and the flanking steps.
