Description

No. 8 Wyndham Place is a terraced house built around 1811 to 1823 as part of the Portman Estate's Bryanston Square development, designed by J.T. Parkinson. It adjoins the side of No. 37 Crawford Street. The house is constructed of stock brick with a stuccoed ground floor, and has a concealed slate roof. It is four storeys high, with a basement, and two windows wide. A semicircular arched doorway is located on the left side, featuring inset Greek Doric columns supporting the doorhead, alongside a panelled door and fanlight. The upper floors contain recessed sash windows with glazing bars, set within flat, gauged red brick arches. A plat band runs along the first floor, and the building is topped with a parapet and coping. Cast iron area railings with urn finials are present on the north side, while early 20th-century railings are at the front. No. 8 contributes to the formal setting of St. Mary’s Church, Wyndham Place.
