Description

These are a group of terraced houses dating from around 1811 to 1820, built as part of John Thomas Parkinson’s development of Bryanston Square on the Portman Estate. They are constructed of stock brick with stucco ground floors, with the exception of numbers 9 and 10 which have channelled stucco. The roofs are concealed behind slate. The houses are four storeys high with a basement. Each front is two windows wide, although number 9 has a shop front at the return and two windows above. The doorways are semicircular arched, to the left on numbers 9 to 11 and to the right on numbers 12 and 13. Each doorway has a panelled door within pilaster jambs, flanked by a fanlight. The windows are recessed sash windows; numbers 9 and 13 retain their original glazing bars, set within flat, gauged red brick arches. A plat band marks the end of the stucco work. The houses have crowning stucco cornices and blocking courses on numbers 10 and 12, with parapets having stone copings on the remaining properties. There are cast iron balconettes at number 9 and continuous geometric patterned cast iron balconies on numbers 10, 11 and 12. The front garden is enclosed by cast iron railings with urn finials.
