Description

TQ 3079 SW CITY OF WESTMINSTER TUFTON STREET, SW1 101/27 No. 7, (Faith House) - II Offices, and institute. 1907 by (Sir) Edwin Lutyens; an early London work built as the St. John's Institute. Dark brown brick with stone dressings, pantile roof. Wittily Georgianised palazzo. 2 storeys and dormered attic. 5 windows wide. Ground floor has 3 large stone archivolt arched openings with flanking panelled piers, the outer openings as doorways and the central one as window. The piano nobile has tall recessed glazing bar sashes in stone architraves with cornices. Stone plinth, brick and stone 1st floor plat band and sill band; prominent moulded eaves cornice. Large glazing bar sashed dormers on eaves, the central one pedimented. Interior not inspected.
