Description
Nos. 9 and 10 on Barton Street are a pair of terrace houses built around 1722. They feature brown brick with red brick dressings on the flanks and windows, topped with tiled roofs. The houses stand three storeys high, with basements and dormered mansards, each having three windows across the front. The doorways are located to the right and have panelled doors set within wooden architrave cases, topped with flat hoods supported by consoles. The windows are flush framed glazing bar sashes under flat gauged arches, with the first and second floor windows having red brick eared aprons below their sills. A parapet with coping crowns the buildings, and there are wrought iron area railings with urn finials. This pair is part of an exceptionally well-preserved group of early 18th-century housing, along with Cowley and Lord North Streets.
