Description
No. 1 Cowley Street is a terrace house dating from around 1722, although its front has been largely rebuilt to resemble the original design. The building is constructed of brown brick and features a tiled roof. It stands three storeys tall, with a basement and a dormered attic, and is two windows wide. The entrance is located to the right and is framed by a wooden doorcase with carved brackets. The nearly flush framed sash windows are situated under flat gauged rubbed brick arches. The house also has brick plat bands and a parapet topped with stone coping, as well as wrought iron area railings. This property is part of an exceptionally well-preserved early 18th-century group of houses, along with those on Barton and Lord North Streets.
