Description

No. 19 Cowley Street is a terrace house dating to circa 1722, with a two-bay extension added to the right and a restoration undertaken in 1920 by Blow and Billerey. The building is constructed of brown brick with a tiled roof and has three storeys, a basement, and a dormered mansard. Originally four windows wide, it has a matching two-bay extension. The entrance is in the third bay from the left, featuring a Doric pilastered doorcase and a cornice hood matching that of No. 18. The windows are recessed glazing bar sashes set under flat, gauged, rubbed brick arches, with corresponding brick dressings to the jambs and apron panels below the sills. Brick plat bands and a parapet with coping are present. Two large Tudor Rose wall ties are incorporated into the facade. Wrought iron area railings have flambé torch finials. The house forms part of a remarkably well-preserved group of early 18th-century buildings, which includes Barton and Lord North Streets.
