Description

A pair of terrace houses dating to circa 1722. The houses are constructed of brown brick with a tiled roof. They are three storeys high with basements and dormered mansards. Number 16 has three windows wide, and Number 17 has two windows. The doorways are paired in the centre and feature doors of six fielded panels set within doorcases of fluted pilasters, supporting elongated console brackets to cornice hoods. They have flush-framed sash windows under flat, gauged, rubbed brick arches. A wooden cornice band runs across the heads of the ground floor windows, continuing the design of Number 15. Brick plat bands and parapets with copings are also present. Wrought iron area railings have flambé torch finials. The buildings form part of a remarkably well-preserved area of early 18th century housing including Barton and Lord North Streets.
