Description

TQ 3079 NW CITY OF WESTMINSTER PARLIAMENT STREET, SW1 92/36 (east side) 13.5.83 No 37 G.V. II Chambers and shop. c1870. Portland stone, slate roof. Eclectic Renaissance round arched style. 5 storeys and stone dormered mansard. Narrow front, 3 windows wide but closely grouped. Ground floor has altered shop front retaining frame of granite Doric columns on tall pedestals and console-bracketed cornice. 1st, 2nd and 3rd floors, flanked by giant piers capped by decorative finials, have arcaded groups of windows, the central arch on 2nd and 3rd floors broader than flanking ones; 4th floor windows segmental arched with keystones. Carved ornament and ornamented cast iron continuous window guards. Cornice with blocking course interrupted by central eclectically ornamented stone dormer, now flanked by mid C20 dormers.
