Description
St Stephen's Tavern is a public house and dining room dated 1875, located on Bridge Street in the City of Westminster. The building is constructed of Portland stone and brick, topped with a slate roof, and showcases an eclectic French Renaissance style with a pavilion roof. It stands four storeys high with an attic and features a narrow three-window front, with an eight-window long return to Cannon Row. The ground floor has a public house front with a basket-handle arched window and an entrance that is set back at the corner. The first and second floor windows are closely set and architraved, while the third floor is highlighted by an open columned loggia. Each floor has cornices, with the top one topped by an elaborate stone dormer. The first and second floors also have ornamented cast iron balconies, and there is cast iron cresting on the front pavilion. The return section has a similar three-window design, with an additional five bays made of brick and stone, featuring elaborate piers that articulate the ground floor and stone dormers.
