Description
This is a row of four linked pairs of houses, numbers 2 to 16, Craven Hill, dating from the mid-19th century. The houses are constructed of stucco with slate mansard roofs, except for numbers 6 and 8 which have plain mansards. They extend over three storeys with attics, and include basements. Each house has a three-window frontage; the outer bays are recessed and contain the entrances, which are varied. The ground floors are channelled, and feature Ionic porches. Canted bay windows are present on the ground floor of numbers 2, 4, 10, and 12. Balconies, shaped like a gentle outward curve (bombé), are positioned on the first floor. The windows are square headed and feature architraves above the ground floor level; the first floor windows are heavily corniced. The windows are sash windows with plate glass, except for French casements on the first floor of numbers 10 and 12. Dentil cornices are located above the second floor, and a smaller subsidiary cornice defines the attics.
