Description

A terrace of six houses at 18-22 Craven Hill, dating to around 1840. The buildings are constructed of stucco with a slate mansard roof, and are designed to appear as a grand, symmetrical dwelling. The terrace is three storeys high with an attic, a further attic mansard, and a basement. Each house is three windows wide. The central house is recessed and features an Ionic colonnade on the ground floor, while the other houses have projecting Doric porches. The ground floor windows are framed by pilasters. A continuous, bombé balcony runs across the first floor. The windows in the outer houses are grouped to form a single triplet, unified by a shared cornice and pediment, flanked by Corinthian columns. The windows of the central house are individually pedimented. Above the ground floor are architraved, square-headed windows. The windows are sash windows with glazing bars, and include French windows on the first floor. The central house has a bombé balcony on the second floor. A dentil cornice sits above the second floor, with a smaller cornice detailing the attic.
