Description

Corbetts Wharf Warehouse, built in the early 19th century, is a five-storey stock brick warehouse block with cellars, notable for being a rare survival. The building features a five-bay front, with corners that are splayed off to Wapping Dock Street and Wapping Lane. It has a band cornice and a parapet that returns to the five-bay side elevations. The central section of the façade includes a hatch rank that extends through three floors, with the first floor retaining its original hatch, complete with flush set timber jambs and lintel. The top floor has been bricked in and features a renewed lintel, while the ground floor has modern doors. The windows are relatively small and segmental arched, constructed with gauged brickwork; some are blind, while others have original cast iron cross spiked grilles or consist of two small pane lights with a wood mullion. To the right of the hatch rank is a narrow round arched doorway, with a blind window above that has had an oculus inserted at an early date. The side elevations display similar details, including off-centre hatch ranks that partly retain original flush jamb doors. The front of the building is adorned with two moulded and fluted 'vase' lead rainwater heads.
