Description
This is an early to mid-19th century warehouse located on Prusom’s Island, bounded by Hillard’s Court and Cinnamon Street. It’s a rare survival of its type. The warehouse is built of stock brick with a plain parapet coping. The east elevation is cranked to meet Cinnamon Street, creating a chamfered corner at Hillard’s Court. The front facing Wapping High Street has six bays. The windows are squat, segmental arched, with thin Portland stone sills and small-pane industrial iron glazing. The first bay from the west has a flush jamb hatch rank. A large, segmental arched, keystoned entrance, spanning the ground and first floors with an impost moulding, provides access. A more modern works entrance is located near the Hillard’s Court corner, featuring a small segmental arched light above, retaining the wheel pattern in the cast ironwork. The east and west elevations have similar windows, flanking the hatch ranks. Cast iron pivot hoists, featuring circular braced spandrels, are present. The windows on the straight west elevation retain wheel-patterned ironwork. The warehouse has hipped roofs divided by fire walls. Internally, there are timber floors and posts, though some later cast iron stanchions have been installed.
