Description

New Crane Wharf is a warehouse dating to around 1900, situated on an L-shaped footprint. The front elevation, facing the street, has three bays and is three stories high, constructed of stock brick with engineering brick dressings. A stepped brick cornice marks the eaves. The lower portion features an engineering brick plinth and horizontal bands below each floor. The central loading bays and flanking window bays are recessed within shallow panels, creating a pilaster effect. The loading bays have bull-nosed reveals. The windows are iron framed with RSG lintels. The riverside block is four stories high with a parapet and six bays containing windows and loading hatches. The outer bays are topped with concrete lintels, the central pair with rounded brick arches and keystones. It is related to the nearby 'A' warehouse at Metropolitan Wharf (see separate entry).
