Description
'A', 'B', 'C', and 'D' Warehouse at King Henry's Wharves is a Grade II listed building located on the south side of Wapping High Street. This warehouse block, built in the first half of the 19th century, features a brown brick construction with red brick dressings and a hipped slate roof with red tile-clad ridges. It stands five storeys tall with a basement and has ten bays with door ranks on each side. The ground floor doors are framed by massive stone surrounds, while the windows above have red brick segmental arches and red painted sills, all fitted with glazing bars.
The riverfront of the warehouse has a more monumental appearance, characterized by a giant pilastrade that rises from the stylobate ground floor, complemented by a frieze with a brick corbel string, a cornice, and a blocking course. The segmental arched windows on the ground floor are set within segmental arched recesses. There are loading bays on the ground floor below the hatch ranks, which have the same granite surrounds as the street front. Additionally, a large wall-mounted lattice jibbed crane is positioned at the center of the first floor, with a smaller crane located to the right on the second floor.
This building is part of a group that includes No 94 (The Old Aberdeen Wharf), St John's Wharves, and King Henry's Stairs, along with an associated lamp standard. The nearby unlisted Police Station does not obstruct the view of these historic structures.
