Description

This is a substantial terrace of houses built in 1824, with a later addition to Cottage Grove on the Rhondda Grove facade in 1823, forming part of Rodney Terrace. The building is constructed of yellow stock brick with stucco bands and remnants of a blocking course, and has a slate mansard roof. The terrace has 6 bays projecting at each end. It rises three storeys with a basement, and incorporates dormers, each section featuring two windows. The windows are sash windows, the majority with glazing bars. The first-floor windows are round-arched, and many have iron balconies. The doorways are round-arched, each with a fanlight and fluted pilasters. A tablet on the Mile End Road facade reads "Rodney Terrace erected 1824,” and another on the Rhondda Grove facade of number 415 reads "Cottage Grove 1823". Numbers 415 to 437 (odd) form terrace groups leading to Tredegar Square from Mile End Road.
