Description

Nos. 43 to 69 (odd) on Philpot Street form an early 19th century symmetrical terrace, divided in the centre by the entrance to Ashfield Street. The terrace is built of yellow stock brick with stone coping and a stucco band above the ground floor. The central block, comprising Nos. 49 to 55 and Nos. 57 to 63, has a higher brick parapet than the ends of the terrace. The buildings are three storeys high with a basement, and each has two windows. The windows on the first floor have gauged flat arches and semi-circular headed recesses containing glazing bars. Ground floor windows are round headed, with gothic glazing bars, except for those of Nos. 65, 67 and 69, which have gauged flat arches and no glazing bars. The round headed doors have fanlights and are flanked by mostly fluted or panelled pilasters. The doors at Nos. 43, 55 and 57, which are on the returns to adjacent streets, feature keystones with plaster heads and decorated impost bands. Nos. 43 to 69 (odd) are considered to form a group.
