Description
Nos 1 and 3 Elder Street is a mid-19th century facade that was originally part of a public house and an adjoining house, built before 1731. These buildings are part of a group that includes Nos 9 and 10 Fleur de Lys Street. The structure is made of brick and features a mansard roof, although the material is not visible. It has a heavy eaves cornice with carved end brackets and a band below. The buildings are three storeys high with dormers. No 1 has three windows, while No 3 has two. The windows are sashes with stucco architraves and sill brackets on the second floor of No 1 and on all floors of No 3. There are vermiculated keystones, some embossed in low relief.
The ground floor of No 1 has a panelled wooden facade, with a dentil cornice featuring spaced brackets. The windows have obtusely arched heads with a dentil cornice and are separated by wooden Ionic pilasters. There are large square windows with a decorative band above and three sets of double doors. The ground floor window of No 3 is now surrounded by plain stucco dressings, and the doorway has a similar surround with a vermiculated keystone.
The road surface of Elder Street, along with Nos 1 to 23 (odd) and Nos 24 to 36 (even), forms a group with Nos 9 and 10 and the road surface of Fleur de Lys Street.
