Description
Nos 28 and 30 on Elder Street, dating from around 1720, are notable buildings featuring brown brick and a stucco ground floor on No 30. The structures rise to four storeys, with No 28 having two windows and No 30 having three. Both buildings have a parapet and segmental arches above the windows, which are fitted with double hung sashes in flush frames that include glazing bars.
The entrance to No 28 is marked by a wooden Doric doorcase with flat rusticated pilasters. In contrast, No 30 boasts a wooden doorcase with engaged plain Ionic columns, a pulvinated frieze, and a bracketed cornice topped with a pediment. Its rotund-headed doorway features a carved head at the key of the archivolt and moulded caps on the rusticated imposts. Wrought iron railings lead up to the entrance steps of No 30.
Additionally, No 28 retains a medieval plan, which is significant as it connects to Nos 5 and 7. The road surface of Elder Street, along with Nos 1 to 23 (odd) and Nos 24 to 36 (even), forms a group with Nos 9 and 10, as well as the road surface of Fleur de Lys Street.
