Description

This is a terrace of thirteen houses built in the early 19th century, located on Camberwell New Road in Southwark. The houses were originally constructed of yellow brick, with a parapet to the roof. The ground floors of numbers 257 and 259 have been finished with stucco, and all the houses have stucco basements. Numbers 261 to 281 appear to have been rebuilt.

The houses are three storeys high and each has a two-window frontage. The ground-floor openings are round-arched, with stucco impost blocks. Each house has a door with fluted quadrant pilasters and a cornice head. Decorative fanlights are present above the doors of numbers 259, 263, 267 and 271. Number 257 has a blocked-up door within a two-storey extension to the left, featuring a stucco Doric porch. All the windows are sash windows with glazing bars, and those on the upper floors are set within flat, gauged-brick arches. A first-floor sill band runs along the front, and cast-iron window guards are present.

The interior of the houses has not been inspected. The terrace is complemented by wrought-iron area railings featuring spearhead standards.
