Description
An early to mid-19th century pair of semi-detached houses located in Southwark. The houses are built of brick in Flemish bond with stucco dressings, and have slate hipped roofs. Number 32 has a single-window front facing Holly Grove, while Number 33 has a three-window front facing Bellenden Road, with a single-window range on its Holly Grove return. The front of Number 33 is symmetrical, centering on an entrance beneath a Doric prostyle porch with an entablature featuring a wreath frieze and blocking course. The ground floor openings are round-arched, with rusticated blocks framing the jambs and voussoirs of the windows. First and second floor windows have moulded architraves with projecting sills, and cornices supported by brackets on the first floor. The windows are sash windows with original designs; the centre range has 6x6 and 3x3 sashes, while the end bays have 8x8 and 4x8 sashes. A first-floor sill band runs along both houses. The Holly Grove elevation between the two houses features a three-window range, with the central window blocked and a vertical strip marking the party wall – an unusual detail. A first-floor window on the return of Number 33 is a sash window with Gothic tracery. The entrance to Number 32, accessed by steps, is round-arched with decorative fanlight glazing. Stacks are located on the party wall. The interior has not been inspected.
