Description
Number 45 is a house built around 1800, located on Grange Road in Southwark. It is constructed of multi-coloured stock brick and features a stucco cornice above a rebuilt brick parapet. The building has three storeys and a basement, with a three-bay façade. There are steps leading up to a round-arched doorway situated in the slightly advanced right bay. This doorway is framed by Doric pilasters and has a cornice head above the timber doorcase, which includes an altered fanlight. The recessed sash windows are topped with gauged, flat brick arches and have stucco sills, with a sill string on the first floor.
Inside, the interior has been partly altered but retains a curved staircase with balusters featuring a palmette pattern on alternate treads and a cut string. Several original fireplaces and decorative cornices can still be found in the rooms. The property also includes cast-iron railings that lead to the steps.
