Description

This is a group of three houses at 5, 6, and 7 Grange Walk, dating from the late 17th century, and incorporating the remains of a medieval abbey gatehouse. The houses are stuccoed with tiled pitched roofs, and have gable ends facing the street. Numbers 6 and 7 have a two-span gable to the street, with a mansarded roof on the right side.

Number 5 is two stories and an attic, with two main bays. It has a door with an overlight, within a wooden architrave featuring moulded pilasters and a flat hood supported by carved brackets. The windows are segmental-headed sash windows with glazing bars, and the ground-floor windows have shutters. Number 6 is two stories and an attic, with one bay and an irregular arrangement of windows. A later doorway has been inserted. Number 7 is similarly two stories and an attic, with one bay and a later doorway, and an irregular fenestration pattern.

The interior has not been inspected. Within the structure of the houses is part of one side of a late medieval stone gatehouse, which was part of Bermondsey Abbey. To the left of the houses is a chamfered south jamb of the gatehouse, with two wrought-iron gate crooks projecting from the wall. Numbers 5 to 11 Grange Walk form a group.
