Description
Maudsley Hospital (part) is a house that now forms part of the Maudsley Hospital complex. It was built in the early 19th century and features brick construction in Flemish bond with stucco dressings and a parapeted roof. The building has a rectangular plan and stands three storeys over a basement, with a three-window range.
The exterior showcases flat-arched openings. The central entrance is accessed by steps and is set within a rectangular porch supported by Ionic columns and an entablature. Each side wall of the porch has a flat-arched window. There is one window on either side of the entrance, each adorned with an entablature and a projecting cornice, along with lintel string courses. A storey band separates the ground and first floors, with first-floor windows featuring architraves and alternating triangular and segmental pediments. The central window has console brackets.
The second-floor windows have a sill band, with each window also featuring an entablature and projecting cornice. The first floor has 12x12 sash windows of original design, while the second floor has 9x9 sash windows. The right return of the building shows scattered fenestration, and the left return has a blank upper floor, with the lower floor obscured by No. 101, which is not included in this listing. There are stacks on the returns. The interior has not been inspected. This building is listed for its group value with the Maudsley Hospital and No. 99 Denmark Hill.
