Description
The railings to Maudsley Hospital, located on Denmark Hill in Southwark, date from the early 20th century. They feature footings made of aggregate that are simply chamfered, with metal uprights that are paired and designed to resemble columns set on socles. Each column is topped with an urn above the upper rail and is braced at the back by a curved strut. The intermediate uprights are square in section and have an obelisk shape at the top. To the left, or north, there is a brick pier, while to the right, or south, there are a pair of brick piers that support ornamental gates.
