Description

Two houses, numbers 158 and 158A, form part of a terrace built in the early 19th century. Number 158 is constructed of amber brick with a low-pitched slate roof concealed behind a stucco cornice and blocking course. Number 158A is entirely stuccoed, with a cornice and parapet.

Number 158 is three storeys high and has three bays, with slightly recessed two-storey, one-bay outer linking extensions. An Ionic porch is situated on the left extension, featuring a door with fluted pilaster jambs, a cornice head, and a decorative fanlight. The sash windows of the main block have glazing bars and are set within round-headed recesses with a stucco band at the spring. All other windows have flat, gauged-brick arches. Number 158A is three storeys high and one bay wide, with a door flanked by Doric pilasters supporting an entablature. The windows feature moulded architraves and console bracketed cornices. The interior has not been inspected.

Area railings with spearhead standards are attached to number 158. Numbers 144 to 166 (even) form a related group.
