Description
Grove Crescent comprises four linked pairs of houses, built around 1830. The houses are constructed of stucco, with the first and third pairs sharing a pediment featuring a lunette and overhanging eaves, while the second and fourth pairs have parapets concealing dormers within pitched roofs. Number 173 has a cornice and blocking course. The houses are three storeys high, with a basement and attic, and each pair has two bays, plus a one-bay entrance link. The recessed porches are framed by squared pilasters, an entablature, and patterned fanlights (plain at numbers 169 and 179). Most windows are sash windows with glazing bars, set in plain reveals; those on the ground floor are round-headed and set within round-arched recesses with a stucco springing band. A stucco band separates the ground and first floors. The interior was not inspected. Wrought-iron area railings are attached to the front. Numbers 167 to 183 (odd) form a group conveying group value.
