Description

This is a pair of early to mid-19th century houses located on Grove Lane in Southwark. The houses are constructed of brick in a Flemish bond pattern, with painted stucco cement on the basement and parapet entablature. They have mansard roofs covered in slate, each with a single dormer window. The houses are two storeys high, with a basement level. Each house has two windows. The entrances are recessed one brick's depth and are set within narrow ranges. They feature flat arches with ornamental overlights. Round-arched windows are situated on the flanking party walls; the window on the left has ornamental sash bars to the top sash and an authentic glazing pattern to the lower sash. The first-floor windows have flat arches with gauged brick lintels. The wider windows on the party walls contain eight-by-eight sashes, and the original-design sash above the entrance to the left-hand unit remains. A narrow recess terminates in a brick arch at first-floor level on the party wall. A stack is located on the party wall. The interior has not been inspected.
