Description
This is an early 19th century pair of houses, originally built in a simple style associated with Amos Henry Wilds. Number 37 has been altered in the mid-19th century and given a new facade of three storeys and a basement, with three windows arranged in narrow bays. It has a fairly low-pitched, slate hipped roof that extends only halfway along the building, with a parapet above. The facade is stuccoed, featuring sash windows with margin lights and blind boxes. Moulded architraves frame the windows, and console brackets support the cornices above the ground floor windows. The front door is a four-panel design, with pilasters, a moulded cornice above, and a patterned fanlight. Number 39 retains its original facade of one wide bay and a narrower bay set back, although the windows have been altered to match those of Number 37. This facade is also stuccoed, with the centre bay defined by tall pilasters and a segmental arch above. The ground floor windows are casement windows with blind boxes. The door is similar to that found at Number 37. Both houses have four steps leading up to the front doors, with cast iron handrails. Nos 3 to 41 (odd) form a group.
