Description
This is a terrace of twelve small houses, numbered 17 to 23, built in the early to mid-19th century on New Cross Road. They are arranged as a regular group with numbers 3 to 41 (odd). The houses are each two storeys high with a basement, and have three windows each. They are constructed of yellow stock brick, with number 21 limewashed. A band runs along the level of the first-floor window sills. The windows are sash windows with glazing bars. The ground floors have moulded architraves, and console bracketed cornices. The first floors feature moulded architraves. There are four steps leading to the front doors at each house; numbers 17 and 19 retain their original six-panel doors, which are set beneath cornice heads decorated with circular motifs (paterae) and tall, rectangular fanlights. Stucco surrounds the entablatures above the doors. The terrace demonstrates group value.
