Description

Nos. 24 to 54 (even), Kender Street, form an early to mid-19th century terrace of cottages. The terrace comprises twelve cottages, each with two storeys and a high basement, and a single window. The roofs are low-pitched and slate-covered, with visible eaves soffits. The cottages are constructed of multicoloured stock brick. The sash windows have gauged brick arches; the first-floor windows are flat-headed, while the ground-floor windows are round-arched and those in the basement are segmental. Some windows retain glazing bars and margin lights, although some have been replaced. The basement levels have been restored and converted into separate flats. A set of twelve rebuilt steps, featuring wrought iron handrails, lead to the entrance doors. These doors are panelled, with six panels to the lower portions and upper glazed panels. They are topped with reeded quadrant pilasters, a mutule cornice head, and a blocked fanlight. Nos. 24 to 54 (even) are notable as a group.
