Description
46, 48, and 50 Portland Grove is a terrace of early to mid-19th century cottages, with the center cottage slightly projecting. The buildings are two storeys high with a blank basement and feature two windows each. They are constructed of stock brick, with a stuccoed basement, a top entablature, and a blocking course, as well as a first-floor cill band. The windows have gauged brick arches and are recessed within stucco-lined reveals that have stone cills. The ground floor windows are round-headed and set in round-arched recesses that rest on a band. The glazing bars have radial heads on the ground floor, and some of the first-floor sashes are from the later 19th century. Access to the cottages is via seven steps with wrought iron handrails leading to four-panel doors that are flanked by pilasters and topped with a cornice head, featuring plain fanlights above.
