Description
Stockwell Baptist Church is an imposing mid-19th century building located on South Lambeth Road. It features a two-storey, five-bay front facing the road. The central three bays are highlighted by a tetrastyle Corinthian portico with a pediment, positioned half in antis. The side bays have flat pilasters and an entablature topped with a blocking course. The ground floor has five round-arched openings, each with keys and an impost string, including two on the inner porch returns. The upper windows have moulded architraves, with square-headed windows in the outer bays topped by segmental pediments. The seven-bay returns showcase round-arched upper windows and segment-arched lower windows set within full-height round-arched recesses. The building is constructed of greyish brick with stone dressings.
