Description

Nos 24 to 32 Albert Square is a symmetrical terrace of houses built in the 19th century, consisting of three and a half storeys and arranged in a 1-2-3-2-1 grouping. Each house is made of stock brick and features hipped slate roofs. The buildings are adorned with abundant stucco decorations, including quoins and incised detailing on the ground floor and basement, as well as banded panels and an entablature supported by pilasters and engaged columns. The main entablature, which has a modillion cornice and curved brackets, is located at the third floor level, while there are subsidiary cornices at the second floor and a top cornice with a blocking course.

The sash windows, many of which have glazing bars, are set within moulded architraves, and the first floor features console bracketed cornices. Houses 24, 27, 29, and 32 have projecting square bays and grouped first floor windows beneath a central pediment, which is also present at the centre of the group. All doors and the ground floor windows of the intermediate houses are round-arched with an impost string. There are balustrades leading to areas and at the sides of the flights of six steps that lead up to four-panel doors with plain fanlights.
