Description

This is a pair of early to mid-19th century terrace blocks, originally containing five houses each, located on Vassall Road. The blocks are symmetrical, with the outer houses projecting slightly. Nos. 105 to 113 are four storeys high, while Nos. 115 to 123 are three storeys high, and all houses have basements. The buildings are constructed of stock brick with a stucco frieze, cornice, and blocking course. The basement and ground floor have stucco rustication, creating a pattern of voussoirs around the recessed doors and windows, and also around the outer entrance bays with elliptical arches. The sash windows have glazing bars in stucco reveals under gauged brick arches on the upper floors, and radial bars on the ground floor. The houses have tripartite basement windows. Patterned cast iron balconies are present on the first floor. The original six-panel doors retain cornice heads and fanlights, with some fanlights featuring patterned designs. The houses were later restored and converted into flats by the Greater London Council. Rebuilt flights of seven steps leading to the door terraces have been installed to bridge a widened basement, protected by side walls at the outer ends.
