Description
No 131 on Valley Road SW16 is a former spa building dating from the early 19th century, located in the grounds of a dairy. The central block is two stories high and has three windows, constructed from painted brick with incised stucco on the return walls. It features a low-pitched pyramidal roof covered in slate, topped with a central chimney. The windows are recessed sash types with glazing bars and blind cases. At the center of the first floor, there is a round-arched niche that holds a bust of an elderly gentleman. The door has been modernized, and the fanlight above it is blocked.
To the right, there is a taller two-story section with a one-window front that includes a projecting glazed porch on the ground floor. On the left, a one-story three-bay extension has been converted into a garage and a small shop. This building is listed partly due to its historic associations, serving as a reminder of the time when this area of London was home to many holiday and watering places; notably, the old mineral well is preserved in the kitchen.
